An attack ad question

If Michael Ignatieff is being attacked as being unfit for office because he worked outside of the country, why didn't they apply this attack against Elizabeth May?  She was, horrors of horrors, born in the U. S. A . Recommend this Post

Except Michael Ignatieff isn't being attacked for 'living outsude the country'.

Michael Ignatieff is being attacked for the opportunitistic arrogance of living outsidce the country for 34 years and then moving back for the sole purpose of becoming Prime Minister.

For heaven's sake, he announced he was running for Prime Minister eight months after he moved back to the country. That's takes unmitigated gaul.

The more often that Ignatieff and the Liberals try to pretend this is just about him having lived overseas, the more defensive and frightened they're gonna look.

This is funny. If a Canadian with excellent PM potential happens to live outside the country, we are not supposed to recruit him? Perish forbid that Canada be governed by one of our own with first-hand (and first-rate) knowledge of the outside world!
Compare this with the case of Stephen Harper, who before becoming PM, had never set foot outside North America! (Come to think of it, maybe he hadn't even been to the US.) When questioned about this dubious qualification for leadership in our now globalized world, Harper replied that well, his wife had been to Europe.

i am sick of the attack ads from the conservatives. Why don't they focus on what the can do for us as canadians? I am going to vote for the liberals JUST BECAUSE of the sttack ads from the conservatives. It is just another tactic to divert attention. What a joke. I don't care where Micheal lived. I care about the economy.

I think experience and engagement in Canadian public life are major preconditions for having "excellent PM potential". And you just can't get that kind of experience if you haven't lived here for more than a couple of years in your entire adult life.

We're not just 'hiring a guy to do a job'. We're electing the next leader of our nation. Surely that should be someone who's had at least a passing involvement in the affairs of the country he intends to lead.

Hi CV - to answer your question, I'll take the "How Do People Who Can't or Won't Do Their Job and, See Someone Who Can and Will, Nipping at Their Heels React?" category for $308.

Highy unlikely that Ms. May will be the next PM of Canada, Mr. Ingatieff, likely will be.
